This is Dave, a robot made of LEGO bricks that can talk

Since its inception, the LEGO toy brand has been characterized by desire “to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow”. A password that seems to achieve its goal generation after generation even in the digital age. Thanks to the basic pieces of this popular game Dave came alive.

Through the YouTube channel ‘Creative Mindstorms’, in which a group of young people show various creations, this particular robot made of Lego pieces and with a special touch of artificial intelligence was introduced.

Be able to speak and recognize

With a simple yet sophisticated design, Dave is able to move his eyebrows, eyes and mouth, thereby simulating the person’s expressions. To achieve this, its creators added five motors in the eyebrows and eyes, and two more motors that move the mouth and jaw. At this point, the Lego robot only needed one small detail: to integrate the technology part.

To do this, it was enough not only to hide a mobile phone that functioned as a camera and content creation in its secret spaces, but it was necessary integrate software that would give you life and that includes almost 900 lines of code.

Once the creation processes are ready and complete, Dave the robot is able to:

  • Watch faces and hands.

  • Recognize objects and faces.

  • Count and read texts.

  • Predict a person’s age, gender or emotions.

  • Time can tell.

In the video, you can also see how its creators managed to connect it to GPT Chat, which gave rise to more features in generating responses and turned it into “the world’s most advanced LEGO robot head with artificial intelligence”. Final touch to interact with Dave.
