The Simon Bolivar University graduated the first cohort PhD in genetics and molecular biologywhich is part of the Faculty of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, supported by the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The seven new doctors are Ada Luz Carmona Mars, Alvaro Miranda Guevara, Mostapha Ahmed, Ornella Fiorillo Moreno, Roberto Race nobles, Yeira Lopez Lora a Alberto Espinosa Garavito.
Doctoral Director, Leonardo Pacheco Londonohe assured that the doctoral program – which started in 2019 – is unique in its name in Colombia.

“This program stands out for its strategies of connecting students from industry, academia and the healthcare sector who want to train as doctors in this discipline. In its first four years, the program has achieved significant impact on research and innovation, with faculty and student output resulting in the publication of 15 high impact articles in quartiles 1 and 2,” he said.
He added that these first graduates from doctorate have conducted highly effective research that contributes significantly to scientific knowledge and public health in the country, “demonstrating the value and importance of the program in training highly trained professionals in these fields”.
