The September Full Moon, also known as Harvest Moonit will be quite a heavenly spectacle. Not only will there be a full moon, but it will also coincide partial lunar eclipse. This exciting event will culminate on the evening of Tuesday, September 17th at 10:44 PM ET / 7:44 PM PT. It is expected to last nearly 4 hours, with Earth’s natural satellite partially hidden by the planet’s shadow for about 64 minutes.
As this is a penumbral eclipse, only a small portion of the Moon will be dark, so sky watchers in the Americas, parts of Antarctica, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean and eastern Polynesia will be able to witness this impressive event. As the eclipse progresses, a dark shadow will slowly slide across the moon’s surface, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
