The Ministry of Health (Minsa) has supplied modern molecular biology equipment to the National Maternal Perinatal Institute (INMP) and the Diris Lima Norte Reference Laboratory to quickly and accurately diagnose tuberculosis.
Early detection is key to slowing the spread of tuberculosis and shortening the time between diagnosis and initiation of treatment.
With this new equipment, medical staff can identify tuberculosis cases more quickly and more accurately.which facilitates immediate treatment and helps prevent disease progression and the risk of contagion in the most affected communities.
“This progress represents our firm and ongoing commitment to public health in Peru”emphasized the Executive Director of Tuberculosis Prevention and Control in Minsa, Valentina Alarcón.
“We are improving not only the speed but also the quality of tuberculosis diagnostics, which will enable us to provide comprehensive and timely care to patients. “These teams are key to reducing transmission and improving recovery rates in areas with the highest TB prevalence,” he added.
In addition to the acquisition of this equipment, Minsa continues to implement TB prevention and control strategies throughout the country, focusing on high-incidence areas and working closely with health centers and civil society organizations.
Education and awareness of the population continue to be central so that more Peruvians understand the importance of visiting health facilities at the first symptoms of TB and adhering to complete treatment, Minsa emphasized.
Tuberculosis continues to be a major public health problem in Peru, particularly in vulnerable communities. With this latest acquisition and distribution of equipment, Minsa reaffirms its commitment to transition to a tuberculosis-free Peru and to support a comprehensive and effective response to the disease.
