The Institute of Applied Molecular Biology (BMA) will teach the course “Molecular Biology in veterinary diagnostics “, taught by Mar del Plata specialist Silvina Quintana from March 18 to May 5. The training, which will be delivered asynchronously on a platform with access to a consultation forum, will consist of 8 modules spread over 23 classrooms.
The training will also include synchronous consultation hours and tutoring by the teacher during its implementation. The relevant certificate will be extended by 50 approved hours.
In summary, the agenda includes types of sampling, validation and verification of methods, detection and study of causative agents of infectious diseases of cattle as well as zoonotic diseases such as leptospira and trichinella.
Likewise, among other specific topics, it will deal with the application of molecular biology for the detection of emerging pathogens important for veterinary diagnostics – such as African fever and the bird flu virus -, the study of genetically determined diseases in different species, and finally the application of molecular biology in beekeeping.

Quintana holds a degree in Biological Sciences (National University of Mar del Plata) and a PhD in Molecular Biology (National University of Buenos Aires). He has published 67 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented 43 papers at international conferences and 43 at national conferences.
She is an associate researcher at Conicet, until 2022 she was the head of the molecular biology laboratory at Fares Taie Biotechnology and has received 9 awards and honors during her career.
In addition to courses, the Institute of Molecular Biology provides consultancy, personal training and actively participates in scientific cooperation. It also creates custom development where new qPCR methodologies are developed and validated depending on the specific interests of the client.
